ShoutOut Videos FAQ

What is this?

This platform allows family and friends to submit 'shout out' videos that will play when participants pass a set point on the race course.

You can record a video for anyone participating in the full marathon or half marathon. To see what their experience will be like as they pass the video board, click here.

How do I record a video?

1.       When you visit the site, grant access to your camera. The site will only have permission to record while it is open.

2.       Search for a participant by name and select one from the results. You will then be shown a live image from your camera.

3.       Click 'Record' and begin your message. When you have finished, click 'Stop.' After recording, you can click 'Review' to check your recording.

4.       If you want to re-record your video, click 'Record' again.

5.       Once you're happy with your video message, click 'Upload' to submit your video.

6.       Wait until you see a 'Success' message. You can now exit the site, and your camera is no longer being accessed.

Where will the video play?

The video board will be on Superior Street just before Mile Marker 24 of the full marathon and Mile Marker 11 of the half marathon.

Who can I submit a video for?

You can record a video for anyone participating in the full marathon or half marathon. To see what their experience will be like as they pass the video board, click here.

What if I can't find my participant?

The participant data is updated as changes and new registrations are received, but it may take a few days for recent entries to appear in the system.

You can also try search for a partial first or last name (in case your participant used a different spelling or a nickname when registering).

Can multiple videos be submitted for one participant?

Yes, although they may not all be played on race day. Priority for playback will be given to participants who haven't had a video played yet. If time allows, multiple videos may be played for one participant.

How long should my video be?

The videos need to be 5-10 seconds long.

Is there a deadline for submitting my video?

Yes, videos must be submitted by 12:00 p.m. on Friday, June 20th.

Will someone be reviewing the video I submit?

Yes, Grandma's Marathon staff will review all videos submitted. Any videos that use foul or offensive language or show anything that's deemed inappropriate will not be shown on race day.

Will the videos play anywhere else after the event?

No. The videos will only be played on race day. They will not be available to the public before or after the event.

NOTE: By submitting a video, you agree that Grandma's Marathon may use the submitted video for future race promotions.

Can I record my video elsewhere and upload a file?

No, you must use the submission website to record your video. In order to control video length, quality, format, etc., we can't accept any uploaded files.

What are some ideas for messages to record?

The idea of the ShoutOut video is to encourage and support a participant when you can't physically be there at the race. Some examples of messages are:

-          You're almost there, I knew you could do it!

-          You did great, I'll be watching for you at the finish!

-          Way to go, I'm so proud of you!

We do recommend using your participant's first name or a nickname in your video. This will help attract their attention on race day as they pass the video board. Also, make sure they know ahead of time that something special will be waiting for them at this specific location.

What can I use to record my video?

Both iPhone and Android are supported, although you may need the most updated version. Recent versions of Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Opera are also supported if you’d like to record from your computer. You must have a built-in camera or webcam and microphone in order to record a video.
